Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (BINP) is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is a safe place for tourists to embark on a journey to see the family of mountain gorillas in the wild. This park was officially gazetted in 1991 and presently, it sits on the land area coverage of 331sq.km.
It is a compact rainforest park and also one of the most biodiverse protected areas. The park shelters up to 120 species of mammals including the rare mountain gorillas, buffaloes, elephants, clawless otters, civets, golden cats, black fronted duikers, giant forest hogs, bush pigs, yellow backed duikers, rodents, bats.
Within Bwindi, there are also 11 primate species including the red-tailed monkeys, Da Brazza monkeys, spectacled galagos, blue monkeys, baboons, pottos, chimpanzees, Demidoff’s galagos, black and white colobus monkeys.
Birds of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest Park –This protected area is endowed with avifaunal species. The park is home to 350 species of birds and these include 23 Albertine rift endemic species. The diverse bird species of Bwindi include among others include the purple-breasted sunbird, white bellied robin chat, Chapin’s flycatchers, black billed turacos, handsome francolins, regal sunbird, shelley’s crimson wings, grauer’s broadbills, and others.
