Community Tourism

Community walks outside the forest are also always prepared that will provide you with an insight into the lives of both the Bakiga and Batwa (pygmy) peoples living beside the forest.

Batwa Cultural Tourism Encounter

The neighboring Batwa community performs songs and dances about their former life in the forest, introducing you to another unique local culture of their present and past life in Bwindi forest. This is another interesting adventure in Bwindi forest done after the main park activity –gorilla trekking and an experience to remember on your visit to Uganda to see the rare mountain gorillas. The Batwa attraction also keeps tourism and Uganda culture alive generation to generation. Surely this experience shows much more that Uganda has to offer beyond Gorillas, Chimpanzees, Primates, Wildlife and Scenery. The Batwa are best enjoyed if you have a day and you trek into the forest to the Batwa village and meet the community, learn about their life style, past and present and end the day with an exciting invite to their homes and take you through their traditional hunting techniques and craft making.

Ride for a Woman in Buhoma

This is one of less explored community attractions in Bwindi forest that support the community and a woman in particular. Make sure you budget for $20 offer to rent a mountain bike and enjoy a guided bike ride around Bwindi forest as you support the women in the community. Why not spend an afternoon on a village exposure on a guided bike ride. For birders, you can choose the one to the forest to Ivy river trail. The activity takes 3hours and more with a lot to see and experience in the community and forest. Enjoy your afternoon by supporting the community and also conserve the Bwindi forest for generations.
